My eyes slowly open as I seem to be in this void of darkness. My breathing started to quicken; I didn't like the feeling of this 'place.' I began to walk around; it felt as if I was not going anywhere.
As if a light turns on as a scene appears before me, I walk closer to get a better look at it. I noticed the orange fur immediately; it was my Father. It looked like he was injured or murdered by humans. I look to his side as a human is seen uncuffing his shackles.
I fall to my knees with tears streaming down my face; who would do such a thing to my father? What did he do to deserve something like this?
My eyes slowly close as I feel myself fade away from this black void, I go to open my eyes once more, but a bright light burns my eyes, preventing me from opening them.
My eyes slowly adjust to the light as I slowly get up to observe my surroundings. I notice that I am in the infirmary; I look around some more to see that my father and Lucas are surrounding me. I notice that both of them are asleep; they must have been waiting here for quite some time.
"Lucas.." I weakly say; my throat hurts quite a bit. Coughs start to emerge from my throat, which alerts both of the males.
The two of them rush to my side and ensure that I am all good; I quickly dismiss their concern, confirming that I was good. "You passed out when we tried to bring your animal form out," Okami says in a low tone; he seemed sorry for causing all of this.
"I didn't mean for you to get hurt; I'm deeply sorry; I shouldn't have forced you to turn this quickly." I rest my hand on his arm, giving him a sincere smile. He looks down at me with those milky white eyes as he smiles back at me.
"It's not your fault at all, Father; I was the one who wanted to try and turn. I've been human for all this time, so I wanted to try my best to do it my first try." I say meekly, the both of them understood what I was feeling. Lucas tells me that he is happy that I am doing okay and wasn't severely injured.
Immediately something catches my father's and I's attention, but Lucas doesn't hear anything. It must be the heightened hearing from my animal form. The noise wasn't any bushes moving or anything that was typically heard. It was the sound of gunshots, multiple rounds being fired.
I looked over to my father as he stood frozen in shock. 'Maybe he is going through some sort of PTSD from his past,' i thought to myself; that would be something to mention to him later.
"Maya, I need you to stay put for me; I don't want to risk you getting hurt again." I looked down at the floor as my father spoke to me. Okami turns to Lucas, standing next to me with his hand rubbing small circles on my back.
"Lucas, stay here with her. She's stubborn, just like her mother; I know she will want to run out there. So make sure she stays here." Lucas looks over at me for a second before looking back at my father.
"That'll be fine, Okami; I can do that." Lucas nods at my father. I was annoyed, not at my boyfriend, but at the fact that I couldn't get out there and help out my father.
Lucas and I wait around in the infirmary for what felt like an eternity; I stand up as I make my way to the entrance. Lucas tries to stop me, but I glare at him; he understands how much I want to help.
I peeked around the corner to not be spotted quickly; I looked at what was happening right before me. It was like a miny war was happening, Wolves using their abilities not to be murdered by the humans.
Okami seemed to be yelling while defending himself as well. 'Why….. why is this happening.'
The fight continued as blood was everywhere; I couldn't stand still anymore. I didn't want to be the person to just stand on the sidelines. I'm just like them; I have the chance to save people. I looked at my father once more to see he was injured.
That's when something clicks inside of me as I rush out into the battlefield; rage fills my eyes. Suddenly I fell backward on the ground; something stopped me. I slowly opened my eyes to be met with a hound dog.
I couldn't move, no matter how hard I tried. My body was picked up as I was set onto some kind of platform. Each of my limbs were chained down to the wood; by now, the fighting had calmed. All attention was onto me, 'Junsuina chi do you have any idea what they could want to do with me?'
'No, not at all. I'm thinking they know Okami and are using you as a bargaining chip for something.' I could see where she was going with this. From what I have experienced so far, this life isn't going to be easy. But when was life ever easy for me.
I hear a screech come out of my father; I look over to see him rush towards me. He was quickly pinned down to the ground; the humans ensured that he could still see what they would do to him.
Suddenly I feel my limbs being stretched, 'The humans are going to detach my limbs!'
The machine stopped for a bit as I could relax, but I knew that wouldn't be the last of it.
I saw a man make his way towards me; it made me nervous. He brings his hand up to me, reaching for my mask. I know what he was trying to do; he wanted to pull down my mask and reveal my identity. I couldn't allow myself to let that happen.
I then begin to get a strange feeling; Soon, I hear Junsuina Chi's voice speak out to me, 'I need you to hold on, Were trying this again.'
That was the last thing I heard before drifting into the darkness; Okami mentioned that this always happens to him when he turns, that I would be the one to sit back and watch.
Junsuina Chi was able to make it work; a smile grew on my face. I then hear a slight chuckle coming from Junsuina Chi. 'You're still in control; it is different for Pure Bloods.' I understand as I close my eyes to let myself out of the dark void; once I opened them, I saw myself. I was this white deer/wolf-looking animal; I looked in awe; I was in my animal form.
I take a deep breath as I let out a snarl, Breaking out of the chains easily. I open my wings as I shoot up into the air, slamming down into the platform. I slowly look up with my eyes black; I see the man's eyes filled with horror.
I grab the man by his shirt and fly into the air once more. I can feel the man clench onto my fur with his dear life.
"What are you doing here," I tell the man in a stern voice; the man looks down, realizing just how high in the air he was. He looks back up at me again with fear, finally speaking.
"My boss sent me; He wants all of your kind dead…..What are you, though…I've never seen a human with the ability to turn into one of them." The man locks eye contact with me before breaking it once more.
"Now that information is classified," I say once more; if no humans know what I am, then none should know. I get a good grip on the man as I fly back down with him. I look around to see the fight continuing; as I reach the platform again, I pin the man down to ensure he wouldn't escape.
"Well, give your boss a message for me... Tell him to back off, or there will be consequences, and they will not be pretty." I tell the man as another growl emerges from my throat.
The man just smirks at me as a gunshot goes off; I look down to see him holding a gun in his hand. It was pointed at my chest, but no blood was seen.
"Those were special rounds; they're known to pierce the fur of a half-animal; how are you not wounded." the man says with fear in his voice.
I call out to the rest of my kind, warning them of what was to come, to cover their ears.
I bring my body up and then back down as a loud screech emerges from my throat. Louder than any humans have ever heard. All of the humans run off, covering their ears in the process.
Now that the fight is over, Okami lets out an angry screech, not the ability blaring noise, but a regular screech.
"How did this happen? Someone care to explain how those humans got past our barrier." I see one of the animals point in a direction; we all look around to see all the animals were dead. Our only way of using illusion was gone.
I turned back into my human form as I slowly sank into the grass, 'what will we do now? There is no place for us to feel safe anymore' i feel a hand on my shoulder; I look up to see that it was Lucas. He sits down next to me; Okami spots a dark grey wolf with blue eyes. He looked a lot like Monster; maybe they were siblings.
"Solstice, How did this happen?" Okami says as he gestures to all of the dead half-animals that surrounded the village.
"They somehow spotted us, knew our exact placements. The humans abused us on the spot and picked us off one by one. I managed to escape from them." Solstice says as he looks down; everyone around took the moment of silence to those who lost their lives.
The field clears out as everyone heads back home. My father told me he wanted to talk, so he took me to the lake just nearby here. I take a deep breath before starting the conversation.
"What am I? That man…..He explained that he shot me with special rounds known to harm half-animals, but the gun didnt harm me at all." i was curious to know more about my kind, i thought that i was similar to my father's kind.
I also mentioned to my father that i knew i was a half-animal, but that i didnt think the kind was any different. I was curious if he knew more about this kind.
"Pure bloods are known to be much stronger than half-bloods, which is my kind, which would explain the reason that gun didn't harm you. As far as I know, it is almost impossible to kill pure-bloods. You might be the only pure-blood as well."
I was shocked by all of this information, but I understood what my Father was saying.
"When we first heard the gunshots, why did you flinch?" A sigh comes out of my father's mouth.
"When I was a cub, My village was shot down by the humans; I was the only one without abilities at the time, so I couldn't help at all….I witnessed my father getting shot as well."
I could hear the sadness in my father's voice, so I scooted closer to my father, cuddling into his side.
I then remembered the moment I passed out, that vision I had.
"When I had passed out….I had a vision of you. You were chained to a wall, you looked dead, but then I noticed a human helping you."
Okami looked at me for a bit but then looked back out to the lake.
"Back before the first war, His name is Mark; He helped me win that war. I should take you to visit him; he's nice, his daughter should be in her mid-twenties by now."
It was nice to know that my father could make friends in the past; I had one more question I wanted to ask him, though.
"What was Mother like?"
The big question flies out of my mouth; I never got to meet my biological mother. Okami's breathing gets shaky; I know this is a heavy subject for him to talk about.
"Your mother was amazing; I met her before the world became chaos again. She understood everything about me; she was always interested in learning more about our kind. We would always do whatever we could to see each other. She's just as stubborn as you; the day we had to separate from you, she didn't want to leave…... That's the night she also died in a car accident." Okami lets out the tears he kept in for years. I rubbed his back to calm him.
I would have loved to meet my mother, and I know the reasons for needing me to be separated. This world is going to pay for what they did to her.
They will see the power of the pure-bloods.
